Amazon.com essential video:
Elvis Presley's third and best film is this musical romp released in 1957, just as the Big 'E' was reaching the peak of his hip-swiveling pre-army success. Filmed in ultra-cool black and white, the movie stars Elvis as a good ol' boy who saves a woman from an assault but kills her attacker, so he's convicted of manslaughter and sent to jail. While doing time he takes up the guitar and becomes a singing sensation, ready for the big time when he's finally released. He becomes a big star but his inflated ego gets him into trouble with his former cellmate and his new girlfriend. Short on plot but heavy on rock & roll, this EP classic features such hit songs as 'Treat Me Nice,' 'Baby, I Don't Care,' 'Don't Leave Me Now,' and, of course, the classic title song, performed in an elaborate jailhouse number that Elvis choreographed himself. This is Elvis in all his big-screen glory, and the movie's upbeat ending made it a huge success during its original release. --Jeff Shannon

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - This film is UNPARKERIZED
This shows how Elvis could have been a great actor, but he became "Parkerized" into a joke. This is a great movie you should own in any form, vhs, dvd, or hd.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Amazing transfer and fun film
I mostly stayed away from this product as the iconic 'Jailhouse Rock' scene never appealed to me. But the story surrounding this act is entertaining and a nice diversion. Elvis plays a character trying to make it in the music business and has many trials and tribulations along the way. This foray into film will not resemble many of his later efforts which were more light and camp. Jailhouse Rock has a darker tone and looks beautiful on Blu-ray. Elvis fans will enjoy!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Jail House Rock {HD DVD}
I saw Jailhouse Rock many Years ago on TV and now have it on HD DVD with a great performance by Elvis and one of his better films Recommended .

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - ELVIS AT HIS BEST
In my opinion, this is the best movie Elvis made. It shows his natural ability to act, and if Parker had not been in control and allowed Elvis good parts, people would have a very different opinion on Elvis' Hollywood career. King Creole is a close second to this movie. The music in this movie is awesome!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - ELVIS BEST MOVIE HE NEVER COULD WATCH
This was Elvis' finest film although he never would see it during his life due to the terribly tragic death of his co-star Judy Tyler. She recently wed after the film and was killed with her new husband in a car crash very shortly after the film wrap. Elvis, who was very fond of her, (she made only one other film-Bop Girl) vowed never to watch the film as it was too painful to see the late Ms Tyler- so full of life- with so short a time to live. It is sad that one of the few films worth viewing, ... Read More
