Rating:  - Pure fun
To be honest, I bought this DVD set on a whim, expecting mindless schlock. One night when I was sick I popped a disc in and was surprised how much I enjoyed the show. Once I got past the "ewww" factor of the girls' relationship with Hef, I realized that they didn't all look alike and had separate personalities. The more I watched, the more I liked. By the time I had watched all the episodes, I wanted to hang out with the girls!
Now, this is definitely not the Discovery Channel or the History Channel but rather is pure entertainment with no redeeming value. Being a reality show, it is scripted or directed somewhat, but not enough that it takes away from the genuineness of the happenings or the girls' personalities. My favorite episodes are the ones in which they go "on the road", to places such as NYC, Vegas, and Lodi, CA. You get an up-close-and-personal look at what it's like to live inside the Playboy Mansion, which is highly entertaining. You also get a sense of how powerful the Playboy empire is and the enormous number of staff at the mansion. Especially cute are the animals running around, from the girls' pets to exotic zoo animals. And the parties! My favorite episode showed the famous Midsummer Night's Dream party, which looks totally awesome. As a bonus, the girls give commentary on ALL of the episodes, which makes it double the fun.
There is a lot of T and A (and other things), so this show is definitely not for the young or easily offended. But it is a great time, pure escapism.

This is a hilarious show and it just takes me away from the stresses of life. Makes me feel like I'm living that fun-filled life.

Some girls are just so lucky, when I started watching this show I saw my fantasy come to life. Suck an old man's [...] and live in a great big mansion with great big plastic bobblies. I know I could never live up to Hef's expectations, honestly he's just dreamy, he would never look my way. But it's nice to see such genuine, real women living with him. I mean how can you not find Holly's constant nagging for a child adorable? Or Bridgette's attempts to hide her deep self hatred? Or even Kendra's hilarious horse laugh? I just get the sudden urge to giggle and put a big carrot in her mouth (I wonder if Hugh ever tries that?)
If only every woman could find the Hugh Hefner of her dreams, the kind of man that could fulfill our deepest desire for a (great) grandfather figure and prove the meaning of true love by showering money down upon us. When I watched this show, I found the sanctity of a romantic relationship had never been more realized until it was in the presence of cold hard (and I mean like viagra hard) cash.
I wish Hugh and the girls the best, well, they pretty much already have the best. Hef will be always be in supply of real woman, woman who aren't afraid of shame and laugh in the face of self worth, woman who can cover up his constant fear of inadequacy by giving him the true American ideal of masculinity. And as for Holly, Bridgette, and Kendra, they'll never have to worry about anything anymore. Well, besides their demons...or do demons have demons?

I Love the Girls Next Door! I could not imagine Hef dating anyone else. My only wish for this DVD set is a see all episode option like they did with 2nd DVD set, other than that...Good Job Girls & Hef!

I love this show, own the second season also. Its pure entertainment. I like that I can sit back for half an hour and watch a show about these 3 fun girls and get to see how they live. Being a girl myself, I never thought I'd be such a fan, but I was wrong. Its a really fun show that appeals to both men and women.
